Description	:	Daughter of John Hicks Rhudy and Mattie Fulton. She married Horace Sutherland on Sept 11th 1919 in Grayson co. Va. They were the parents of three children Ellis, John, and Horace. Mrs. Mary Fulton Rhudy Sutherland, 73, of Galax, died in a Roanoke hospital Saturday, Dec. 26. She was the widow of Judge Horace Sutherland. Mrs. Sutherland had been engaged in social work in connection with local public welfare agencies for 24 years. She later assumed a position with the Carroll County Welfare Department as a case worker. In August 1955, she left her Carroll post and began working with the Galax Department of Public Welfare. In 1959, she became superintendent of the Galax office and held that position until she retired May 1, 1967. She is survived by two sons, John W. Sutherland and Horace F. Sutherland, both of Galax, and a brother, James T. Rhudy of Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral services were held Monday in the First Presbyterian Church in Galax with interment in Felts Memorial Cemetery.
