She and her husband would have passed the fifty-sixth annivarsary of their marriage today, December 22. Mrs. Butler has for a good many years had the responsibility of looking after both the home and the outside business affairs of the family, as Mr. Butler has been an invalid confined to the home and in need of her constant ministrations. As Mary, the daugher of the Rev. and Mrs. E.H.Gillet, she was born near Lena, Ill., July 22, 1857. She spent her girlhood there, and there united with the Baptist church, a connection which she maintained for over sixty years. She came to Fayette county as a young woman, taught school for a few years, and was married December 22, 1881, to John D. Butler, ever since then residing in the West Union community. To Mr. and Mrs. Butler were born three children. Mabel E. died in youth; Della S., Mrs. Pritchard, died in Fayette county a few years ago; Rollin resides in Oelwein. A sister, Mrs. Nettie Higley, Polo, Ill., also survives. There are four grandchildren------Norma Jean and Roscoe Pritchard, Doris Eleanor and James Rollin Butler; a great-granddaughter, Helen Marie Pritchard; and a niece, Mabel Higley, Polo, Ill. The funeral was conducted at 3 p,m, Friday from the Baptist church by the Rev. U.E. Burroughs.
