Description	:	Mary was a lifelong resident of Barnstead. She and her husband Henry had 5 children of record. Mary was the daughter of David Goodwin Senior and Sarah Eastman. This Was proven when the last will and testament for David was found. Two of her brothers (David Goodwin Jun., and Gilman Goodwin, married two of Henry Chesley's sisters Abigail, and Esther respectively. In addtion, Henry and Mary named their oldest child David Goodwin Chesley. The 1810 census for Barnstead, while not listing female names, does show two females 10-14 years of age. Those ages... In addtion, Henry and Mary named their oldest child David Goodwin Chesley. The 1810 census for Barnstead, while not listing female names, does show two females 10-14 years of age. Those ages fit with the known birth of Mary in 1798. Henry Chesley and Mary Goodwin were married in 1822. The New England Gazette advises Barnstead had a population, by 1830, of 2,047. The only Goodwin family, known to be residents of Barnstead at that time was the David Goodwin family. The following is from "The History of Durham (Oyster River) New Hampshire" Page 70: 40. Moses Chesley (Samuel Lemuel, Philip, Philip, Philip), born 25 April 1775, married 17 Nov. 1796, Mary Nelson, who was born 28 Dec. 1778 and died 3 April 1865. He died Sept. 1 1861. Children were: Abigail b. 14 May 1797; m. David Goodwin; d. 12 April 1829. He was born 10 April 1794 and d. 6 May 1885. Henry b. 9 May 1799; m. Mary Goodwin. Esther b. 3 May 1804; m. Gilman Goodwin; d. Feb. 1872. All of the Goodwin males listed, are known to be children of David and Sarah Goodwin. That makes it reasonable to Suspect that the author considered Mary Goodwin part of the same Goodwin family. Her father David Goodwin's last will and testament identifying his daughter Mary,as one of his daughters removed any doubt.
