Description	:	OAKLAND,MARYLAND —- One of Garrett County's few centenarians, Mary Bolden Helbig, 100, Oakland, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her home. Born June 26, 1901, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Elizabeth May. Her first husband, Emroy D. Bolden, funeral director and civic founder in projects such as the Oakland golf course, Garrett County Memorial Hospital, and the Oakland fire department, died in 1958. Read More	OAKLAND,MARYLAND —- One of Garrett County's few centenarians, Mary Bolden Helbig, 100, Oakland, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at her home. Born June 26, 1901, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Elizabeth May. Her first husband, Emroy D. Bolden, funeral director and civic founder in projects such as the Oakland golf course, Garrett County Memorial Hospital, and the Oakland fire department, died in 1958. Later she married Carleton Helbig, who died in 1979. She was a charter member of the Oakland Civic Club and the Loar Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the American Legion. She was also a member of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and the Garrett County Historical Society. Surviving are three children, Mary V. Murray, Seattle, Wash., and Nancy Helbig and DeCorsey E. Bolden, both of Oakland; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received today, Thursday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., and tomorrow, Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Durst Funeral Home, Oakland. The Oakland Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Father John A. Grant officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.
