Read More	Boone County Democrat January 15, 1909 Another of Boone county's noble pioneer women has answered the death angel's summons and has passed to her final reward. Mrs. Mary McDermott, for more than forty years an esteemed resident of the county, passed away at her home, 1509 Crawford street in this city, at 9:15 o'clock Wednesday evening, January 13, 1909. Death was due to a complication of diseases. She had been declining in health for sometime, but the last illness only came Monday, and her death was peaceful. Mary Hayes was born at Newport, near the city of Limerick, Ireland, in 1839 and was in her seventieth year at the time of her death. In 1853 she came to America, landing at New York. Later she went to Boston, where in 1855 she was united in marriage to Mr. Patrick McDermott. Shortly after their marriage they came to Harvard, Illinois, where they resided until 1866, when they came to Boone county and took up their residence at Moingona. Mr. McDermott died in Moingona in 1884. She continued to reside there until 1894, when she removed to Boone and has made her home here since. To Mr. and Mrs. McDermott were born ten children, all of whom survive and are present for the funeral except one son, Edward; who was killed on the Rock Island railroad in 1886. She is survived by eight sons, Thomas, of Saylor, Iowa, James, Henry and Peter, of Valley Junction, Iowa, and John, Francis, Alexander and Michael, of Boone, and one daughter, Margaret, who lived with the mother and tenderly cared for her during her declining years. Mrs. McDermott was ever of a kindly and cheerful disposition that endeared her to all who knew her, a loving and devoted wife and mother, her children will "Rise up and call her blessed". She was a devoted member of the Catholic church and ever lived a faithful Christian life. Her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends, who extend earnest sympathy to the bere4aved children in their deep sorrow. The funeral cortege will leave the home at 1509 Crawford street, this Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock, to the Sacred Heart church where at 10 o'clock the funeral services will be held, conducted by Father Saunders. The remains will be laid to rest beside those of her husband and son in the Catholic cemetery. Peaceful be her rest.
