Read More	Mary Helen Severson BORN: August 6, 1932 DIED: July 23, 2014 LOCATION: Soldier, Iowa Mary Helen Severson, 81, of Soldier, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at her home. Mary Helen was born August 6, 1932 in rural Moorhead, Iowa the daughter of Winston and Florence (Mahler) Kalskett. She was raised in the Moorhead area and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1949. She furthered her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and received her Teaching Certificate. Mary Helen taught school in Rock Rapids, IA, Rockwell City, IA, and Huxley, IA. Mary Helen Kalskett and James LeRoy Severson were united in marriage on August 8, 1954 at Soldier. After their marriage, Mary Helen finished teaching at Huxley, IA and then raised her children on the farm near Soldier as a devoted housewife and mother. She worked in her later years at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, IA. Her loving husband, James passed away December 10, 2010 in Omaha, NE. Mary Helen centered her life around her faith and her family. She was a very active and involved member of Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, IA where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She enjoyed baking, reading, crosswords, gardening, birds, and was always on the go and hard-working. In Mary Helen and Jim's retirement, they enjoyed visiting their son and his family in Arizona, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with all their family and friends. Mary Helen's family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Survivors include her three children, Doug Severson and his wife Kristin of Phoenix, AZ, Matt Severson of Omaha, NE, and Sara (Severson) Price and her husband Mike of Sioux City, IA; two grandchildren, Nicole Severson and her fiancée Andrew Schmailzl of Phoenix, AZ and Curtis Severson and his wife, Kristen of Sioux City, IA; two great-granddaughters, Ashlyn and Isabella; sister, Anita Moorhead and her husband John of Moorhead, IA; brother, Charles Kalskett and his wife Nancy of Gretna, NE; sisters-in-law, Elsie Kalskett of Moorhead, IA, Donna (Severson) Bebber and her husband Niles of Lakeland, FL, and Patricia (Severson) Vaughn and her husband Frank of Birmingham, AL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winston and Florence; her husband, James L. Severson; and brother, James Kalskett.
