Shank, was born in Savanna, Ill., August 11, 1898, where she lived with her parents until the age of seven when they moved to Oxford Junction, Iowa, residing there until Helen was 13 years of age. Shank, was born in Savanna, Ill., August 11, 1898, where she lived with her parents until the age of seven when they moved to Oxford Junction, Iowa, residing there until Helen was 13 years of age. They then moved to Marion, Iowa and the rest of her life was spent at the family home, 898 Eighth street. She was married February 2, 1921 to Geo. C. Sommers, Jr. Their married life was brief but a happy one. To this union was born July 3, an infant son, Marion Gran [sic]. Helen was a great lover of music and much of her time was spent at her piano. Her illness was brief and her death came as a great shock to her relatives and friends. She passed to the great beyond at 4:30 on the afternoon of July 3rd at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an operation and the birth of the infant son. Besides her husband and infant son, she leaves to mourn her loss, her mother and father and a host of relatives and friends. The funeral was held a the family home, 898 Eighth street on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, July 5th. Rev. H.G. Finney of the Presbyterian church had charge of the services at the home. A quartet from the Presbyterian church fittingly sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Abide with Me." The services at the grave were in charge of Grove City Rebekah Lodge No. 15 at which she was member. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
