Description	:	Daughter of Paul Francis & Iva May (Meyers) Swinford. Mary Helen Swinford Calhoun , aged 91, passed away November 29, 2010 in Elfindale Manor in Springfield, Mo. She was born December 14, 1918 in Maryville, Mo. She graduated from Burlington Junction High School and then obtained her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. She then taught in local country schools. During World War II, she was a WAC and then worked in a war equipment assembly plant. They moved to Springfield, Mo. in 1964. Helen was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. She loved flowers and her activities with her garden club and was a volunteer at the library. Helen enjoyed traveling and using her artistic skills to create crafts for family and friends. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, William Calhoun; parents, Paul and Ida May Swinford; brother, Paul Kenneth Swinford; and three sisters, Doris Zeiger, Claudia Pfander, and Dorothy Jennings. Helen is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial service will be held, 1:30 p.m., January 8, 2011, in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, Mo. (News-Leader, Springfield, MO, Sunday, December 5, 2010, p. 5B, Col. 5-6) Auxiliary Mary Helen Swinford of Maryville has completed basic training at the First Women's Army Auxiliary Corps Training Center at Fort Des Moines, IA., and has been selected for specialist training in the administrative school.
