She was buried on January 12. +++++++++++++++++++++ HER FATHER'S OBITUARY Register and Argus, IA, Thursday, February 24, 1910, pg. 7, col. 2 Xavier Franz Schaefer was born at Westphalia, Prussia, Nov. 2nd, 1834. In 1854 he came to this country and settled in Sac Center, Minn., and later came to Clayton county. On Feb. 21, 1865, he was married to Anna Mary Behrns. of this place. They then settled on a farm north of town, where the deceased lived until the time of his death. A little over a year ago Mr. Schaefer was seriously injured in a runaway, which later necessitated the amputation of one of his lower limbs, a very serious operation for one of his age. He has entirely recovered from this operation and was in fairly good health until about two weeks ago, when he was taken sick with heart trouble and dropsy, from which he died on Feb. 10th, 1910. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and nine children, F. Henry, living on the homestead; Mrs. Henry Berns, of Jefferson twp.; Mrs. Hy. Hageman, of California; Xavier, of Clayton; Theodore, of California; Guido, of Montana; Joseph and Minnie, of Ceres, and Regina, at home. Three brothers also survive him, John, of South Dakota, Louis, in Germany, and Arnold at Garnavillo. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Raedler, were held Tuesday at St. Joseph's church, with interment in the Catholic cemetery. ++++++++++++++++++++++ HER MOTHER'S OBITUARY Guttenberg Press, IA, Thursday, June 18, 1931, pg. 1, col. 4 MRS. XAVIER SHAEFERS DIED FRI. JUNE 12TH FUNERAL HELD MONDAY MORNING AT ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH, GARNAVILLO Mrs. Anna Mary Schaefers passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. J. Wille, of this city, where she has made her home for the last three years, on Friday morning at 11 o'clock, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 22 days. The deceased was born in Westphalia, Prussia, on September 20, 1946 and came to American in 1847, settling in Jefferson township the very same year. On February 21, 1856, she was married to Xavier Shaefers at Guttenberg, Iowa. To this union was born 14 children, six of which preceded her in death. Besides being a devout member of the Catholic, she was associated with the Rosary Society and was comforted by the last rites of her religion. She belonged to the St. Joseph's parish at Garnavillo since it has been established and aided in the building of the first school and church; also the present school and parsonage. Funeral services were held from the St. Joseph's Church, at Garnavillo, and conducted by Rev. Father Scharphoff, Monday morning. The pallbearers were the six grandchildren, Frank, Arnold and George Schaefers, and Carl, Henry and Eugene Berns. Those that mourn her going are Henry Schaefers, of Emory, South Dakota; Xavier Schaefers, of Garnavillo; Theodore, Joseph and Whilomena, of Edgemont, South Dakota; Mary Anna Hagemann, of Yuba City, California; Guido Shaefers, of Dillon, Montana; and Regina Wille, of this city. The following out of town relatives and friends attended the funeral: Henry Schaefer and son Arnold, of Emery, South Dakota; Joe Schaefers, of Edgemont, South Dakota; Ed Meier and wife, of Lawler, Iowa; Ed. Auer, of Monona; Miss Theodore Berns, of La Crosse, Wisconsin; Mrs. Crad Meredith, of Sacramento, California; and H. B. Berns, of Strawberry Point, Iowa.
