Came to America with her father, a French soldier/"sutler" associated with Lafayette and the French Troops. Name was possibly a derivative of De au Boulogne, i.e. "of Boulogne, France". Some family letters have "D'Aubolieul" Family tradition says that since no one could pronounce her name, she was simply called "Polly from Paris".
