April 3, 1842 she came with her parents to Cedar county, Iowa, where she lived most of her life. She was united in marriage to James Wilson January 18, 1848. April 3, 1842 she came with her parents to Cedar county, Iowa, where she lived most of her life. She was united in marriage to James Wilson January 18, 1848. To them were born five sons and two daughters, four of whom are living: Henry of Alva, Oklahoma, Mrs. Emily Ridenour of Aline, Oklahoma, Melvin of Tipton, Orlando of Chanute, Kansas, Andrew having died in infancy, Douglass in 1908 at Chanute, Kansas, and Mrs. Mathilda Edwards in 1910 at Spooner, Wisconsin. She had fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Of her five brothers and two sisters but one survives, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Baker of Muscatine. Early in life she was converted and became a member of the Christian church. Although totally blind for 35 years, she never complained of her affliction. Her strong personal characteristics were unfailing patience, cheerfulness and devotion to whatever she believed to be right in the sight of God. Always adhering closely to her strong christian principles, she was ever just in her judgment of others, often remarking "It is better to suffer wrong than to do wrong." Grandma often expressed her desire to go whenever it was God's will and now that her life's work is finished, Our Father has taken her home to rest. Interment was made at Rochester cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.A. Hayes of Morley, assisted by Rev. Harper Kreiser.
