Description	:	Inez was the third of six children of Richard Lewis Coulter & Mary Jane Stoughton. At age 30, she married on May 9, 1893, in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, to John Charles Dowlin; they had one daughter, Iris Mary, who died at age 3 in 1904. All three were cremated and inurned in San Francisco Columbarium. The San Francisco Columbarium, containing over five thousand niches, was designed by British architect Bernard J. Cahill and opened in 1898. The copper-domed building survived the 1906 earthquake; but from 1934 to 1979, it was abandoned to raccoons and birds, mushrooms and fungus. The Neptune Society... The Neptune Society acquired the building in 1979 and over the years has performed a dazzling restoration. Looming over three acres of gardens, the building features inlaid marble floors, stained-glass windows, tiered circular balconies, and ceiling mosaics. It serves as a memorial chapel and hosts concerts and civic events. Free tours are available. John & Inez lived in San Francisco at the time of the great 1906 earthquake and fire. The 1920 census of San Francisco lists John, age 70, and Inez, age 56; both born in Pennsylvania.
