Description	:	Mary Hockett, age 90, of Madison, died on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Madison Care & Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be 10 AM-12 PM on Tuesday, October 10th at Weiland Funeral Chapel followed by a luncheon at the Madison Methodist Church located immediately south of the funeral chapel. Mary's family will be gathering on Wednesday, October 11th at Jim & Maxine Webb's home, 1520 E. 60th St. #1 in Sioux Falls for a time of socializing and to celebrate her life. There will be a private family inurnment in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. ... Mary Irene Davis was born in Mitchell, SD on February 6, 1927 to Clyde & Nora (Hobbs) Davis. She lived and attended school in Madison, SD. In 1943, she married Leonard James Hockett and they had six children. Mary and Lenny were married until 1962 when Lenny passed away at the State Softball Championship in Redfield, SD. Mary worked at the Madison Police Department as a dispatcher for many years, the women's correctional facility in Yankton, and Wenk's Poultry. Mary had many hobbies: shopping at garage sales, taking long walks, and she was good about moving into a new house and completely redoing it. She would change the whole interior of a home in a matter of week or two. Mary was a member of the VFW and The Nazarene Church, this past few years she attended the Gathering at the Methodist Church in the evenings. Mary liked to travel and some of her adventures included traveling to Alaska, Texas, California, and festivals in Minnesota. Mary lived in Madison nearly her whole life, traveling but never leaving her small-town roots. She could always tell a delightful story about the people she had met and how this world is so small. She often would strike up a conversation with perfect strangers. Mary's quick wit and feisty spirit will be greatly missed by all! Mary is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Jorge and Lenette Hockett; three sons, William Hockett, Leonard Hockett Jr. and James Hockett; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and people who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clyde Davis Jr. (1924); husband, Leonard James Hockett (1962); son, Frankie Len Hockett; sisters, Daisy Klucas and Helen Swenson. - Weiland Funeral Chapel
