Description	:	Mary Irene Geatz, 91, passed away November 15, 2018, at Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care. Born in Cumberland May 21, 1927, she was the daughter of George W. Long, Sr., and Mary Irene Dailey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman F. Geatz, Jr.; her son, Norman Kyle Geatz; as well as her sister and two brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Read More	Mary Irene Geatz, 91, passed away November 15, 2018, at Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care. Born in Cumberland May 21, 1927, she was the daughter of George W. Long, Sr., and Mary Irene Dailey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman F. Geatz, Jr.; her son, Norman Kyle Geatz; as well as her sister and two brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary Irene attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Catholic Girl’s Central High School, and after graduation in 1945, was employed at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. In 1948, Mary Irene married Norman Geatz and began the journey of raising six children. In the early years of their marriage, Mary Irene was a homemaker. She later obtained her real estate license, and began a successful 30 plus year career. She was employed by several local agencies, but was most known for opening and managing the Cumberland Long and Foster office in 1995. She remained as manager there for seven years. Selling real estate and helping people find their dream home was one of her biggest pleasures, and she reluctantly retired in 2007. She is survived by five children, Shawn Coulehan and husband “Rip”, Wendy Hannon and husband Chris, Tobin Geatz and wife, Shawn, Adam Geatz and fiancée Layne Simons, and Liam Geatz; nine grandchildren, Kevin Coulehan, Katie Coulehan Calis and husband Mark, Quinn Coulehan Deibel and husband Jason, Kyla Mailhot and husband James, Lauren T. Geatz, Mary Caite Hannon and wife Sarah, Christopher T. Geatz, Katie Scott, and Ian Geatz; eleven great-grandchildren, Mcclain and Colleen Coulehan, Andrew and Emma Calis, Samantha and Nolan Mailhot, Brantley and Breghan Deibel, and Alara, Lillian and Azzie Scott. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at the Lions Center for their wonderful care, attention, and affection toward their mother and entire family over the past four years. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday November 25, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of Saints Peter & Paul, 125 Fayette Street, Cumberland, on Monday, November 26, 2018, at 10 a.m. Interment immediately following at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
