Description	:	MARY IRENE "Snookie" EDWARDS SCOTT of Gainesville, Fla. passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 18, 2008, two days after her 89th birthday. Snookie was born and raised in Gainesville. She was the daughter of Andrew Martin and Irene McCreary Edwards. She graduated in 1941 from Florida State College for Women (now F.S.U.) where she was president of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Snookie was born and raised in Gainesville. She was the daughter of Andrew Martin and Irene McCreary Edwards. She graduated in 1941 from Florida State College for Women (now F.S.U.) where she was president of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Her degree was in elementary education and she taught in Fort White, Fla. prior to her marriage to Ned. H. Scott. Snookie was instrumental in overseeing the building of the Sigma Kappa Sorority House at the University of Florida. She was active in the Gainesville Women's Club, the Junior League and the Gainesville Garden Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville where she adored "Preacher" U.S. Gordon. Snookie's passions were family, friends and flowers. She was a world traveler where she made countless friends and memories. Her collection of roses, camellias, and azaleas and her caladium-lined yard enthralled everyone. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Harry Edwards of Ocala, Fla.; four children, Michael Scott of Los Altos Hills, Calif., Diane (George) Stoffregen of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert (Linda) Scott of Panama City, Fla. and Steven (Jessie) Scott of High Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren, Christopher, Lindsay, Michael, Mathew, Michelle and Kristin; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Aiden. The family received friends at Milam Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Graveside services were held at Evergreen Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. A celebration of her life followed the services. Honorary pallbearers were Snookie's wonderful caregivers of the past five years. Contributions may be made in Snookie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
