Description	:	Mary Isabel Parr Saunders, 93, widow of Edward B. Saunders, died at home Nov. 20, 2013. Born Jan. 31, 1920 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Royster C. and Mary C. Parr. She was educated in Amherst public schools and was graduated from Longwood College. At age 18, she began teaching in Amherst County and taught in Bedford County at Big Island, the City of Waynesboro, Fairfax County and Nelson, where she retired with 41 years in the classroom. Saunders, died at home Nov. 20, 2013. Born Jan. 31, 1920 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Royster C. and Mary C. Parr. She was educated in Amherst public schools and was graduated from Longwood College. At age 18, she began teaching in Amherst County and taught in Bedford County at Big Island, the City of Waynesboro, Fairfax County and Nelson, where she retired with 41 years in the classroom. Isabel was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church where she worked with the GA's, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She is survived by her son, Ed Saunders (Sarah); nieces, Jane Shaw, Betty Morrison and Carlestia Mawyer; nephews, John Tunstall and Wilton Dolan; several great nieces and nephews and a brother-in-law, Palmer Tunstall. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her only sister, Cecil P. Tunstall. The family is very grateful for the care received from Hospice of the Piedmont and from caregivers Susan Mays, Angie Murphy and Shirley Hartless. A funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at the Woodland Baptist Church, Colleen, with Pastor Greg McCormick, officiating. Burial followed in Harewood Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home.
