Description	:	Mary J. Potts, age 97 of Yankton passed away on Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mary was born July 22, 1908 to Herman Sr. and Anna (Holstein) Potts. She went to District 57 School where she graduated from the 8th grade. She worked several jobs for families in the Menominee area including the Menominee Store. Potts, age 97 of Yankton passed away on Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mary was born July 22, 1908 to Herman Sr. and Anna (Holstein) Potts. She went to District 57 School where she graduated from the 8th grade. She worked several jobs for families in the Menominee area including the Menominee Store. She then moved to Yankton and worked for a few families doing cooking and housework. In 1941, she purchased her house and her mother Anna and sister, Alfrieda moved in with her. She took a job at the Yankton Laundry while taking care of her mother and sister. Shortly after they passed away, she went to Sacred Heart Laundry where she worked until she retired. She was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, the Catholic Daughters, Merry Menders of Sacred Heart Hospital, and volunteered at the Yankton Clothing Center. Her door was always open to anyone of need, she had a great love for family and friends especially children. She loved to garden, cook, and she would never miss a chance to play a good game of cards whether it was go fish, rummy or sheephead. She will be remembered and missed by many nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers: William, Louis, Frank, Alois, John, Herman, and Alfred; 6 sisters: Elizabeth Luft, Magdalene Potts, Alfrieda Potts, Anne Koch, Margaret Haberman, and Theresa Parker; 10 nephews and 6 nieces, great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be July 7, 2006 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton with Rev. Ken Bain officiating and concelebrants will be Msgr. Carlton Hermann, Deacon Marcus Potts, and Deacon Clarence Jansen. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kurt Potts, Larry Potts, Ronnie Potts, Corey Potts, Bryan Potts, and Kevin Potts. Honorary pallbearers will be the Catholic Daughters.
