Description	:	Mary Jane Allen, the eldest child of S. C. and Keziah Allen was born in Athens Co., Ohio, Nov. 2, 1834. She died at her home two miles northeast of Floris, Iowa, March 22, 1917, aged 82 years, 4 months, 20 days. At this home she had resided 46 years. Her father (familiarly known as Squire Allen) came with his family to Pittsburg in Van Buren Co., Iowa in 1845, On the 23rd of Jan. 1853, she was married to Isaac S. Hastings, who survives her, now in his 84th year. She was the mother of eight children. The first... Read More	Mary Jane Allen, the eldest child of S. C. and Keziah Allen was born in Athens Co., Ohio, Nov. 2, 1834. She died at her home two miles northeast of Floris, Iowa, March 22, 1917, aged 82 years, 4 months, 20 days. At this home she had resided 46 years. Her father (familiarly known as Squire Allen) came with his family to Pittsburg in Van Buren Co., Iowa in 1845, On the 23rd of Jan. 1853, she was married to Isaac S. Hastings, who survives her, now in his 84th year. She was the mother of eight children. The first born, a son, died in infancy. The eldest dau., Clara, younger than Dan died Mar. 22, 1867, just 50 years before her mother's death, and the last death in the family before the mother's. She united with the Methodist Protestant Church of which her father was a Steward and continued in that communion until the spring of 1854 when she united with the Floris Christian Church of which she was a consistant member at the time of her death.She leaves her aged her husband; four sons: Dan of Floris, Henry of Eldon, Alva of Moulton and Edgar of near Floris; two dau. Sarah Swinney of near Floris and Flora Meredith of Pulaski. All of whom were in attendance at her bedside during her last illness. She also leaves behind a sister; Mrs. C. A. Davis of Floris; half-sisters, Mrs. A. T. Quigley of Eldon and Mrs. Esther Perry of Elrena, OK and half-brother Alvin Allen of Jetmore, KS. Funeral services were held at the Floris Christian Church, Sun. March 25th, conducted by J. W. Altheide, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
