More research needed to confirm. ====================================================== Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent February, 1926 Mrs. Mary Jane Pinney, aged 70, died suddenly in her room in the east brick building at Burkett, following a heart attack, at 10:15 p.m. Monday. She had been suffering from intermittent heart attacks for the past several years and had only recently returned to her own quarters from the hospital where she had been receiving treatment. With her husband, John H. Pinney, also a member of the Soldiers Home, she was admitted to membership from St. Paul, Neb., on June 3, 1918. She is survived by her husband and five children from a former marriage. The daughters are: Mrs Goldie Hutchison of Grand Island, Mrs Jessie Criss of Kearney, Nebraska, Mrs Lillian Wilke of St. Paul, Mrs Belle Sheldon of St Paul and one son, Harry Thomas of Seattle, Washington. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church at St. Paul Thursday afternoon, burial also taking place there. ==================== Phonograph, St. Paul, Nebr. Wednesday 3 March 1926 "Mrs. J. H. Pinney Called To Her Home Above" Mary Jane Bird was born at Sharon, Penn., October 15, 1857. Moving from Pennsylvania to Ohio while still a small child, united with the Methodist church and remained here until womanhood. At the age of 18 she married David Thomas, and to this union were born five children, Mrs. Belle Sheldon, Mrs. Lillian Wilkie, Harry Thomas, Mrs. Jessie Criss, Mrs. Goldie Hutchins, all of whom survive except the youngest daughter, Mrs. Hutchins, and the husband who passed away from this earth March 9, 1923 and September 30, 1889, respectively. On July 4, 1893, she was united in marriage with john H. Phinney at Wayne, Wisconsin and moved to Nebraska, shortly after the marriage, taking up residence at David City. she remained at David City four years, when they moved to Greeley county, where they remained until moving to St. Paul, 20 years ago. They were granted membership of the Soldier's Home at Grand Island, June 3, 1918, and since that time spent part of each year at the Home, where she was residing at the time of her death, February 22, 1926, 9:50 P.M. The funeral was held on Thursday and after the services, which were conducted by Rev. Bryant, the remains were conveyed to Elmwood cemetery where they were interred. The Phonograph desires to extend condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family in their sorrow. A good woman lived on and on for many years, doing good, rearing a good family and setting a good example in every way for everybody. surely she is enjoying her reward in heaven at this time.
