Ball ***** For some days past the readers of the Reflector have been aware of the fact that Mrs. O. L. Ball was slowly but surely passing away, and therefore the announcement of her death at three o'clock this morning will not come upon them as a sudden shock. The warning, however will not assuage the grief of the immediate relatives and friends who so dearly loved and revered her, one of the noblest, purest and truest of christian women. For some time past she has been suffering untold agonies, the result of a cancer trouble, finally calling her death at the hour above mentioned. Through all her sufferings she has borne up with true christian fortitude, even in her deepest pain enduring with a smiling face rather than render more miserable her husband and children. To her surviving husband her decease is a sad blow. No man, in losing his wife, realizes his loss more than does whole-souled, tender-hearted Oliver Ball. To him she has been a true wife, a faithful and loving helpmeet, always at his side "through sunshine and shadow," never failing in those duties that every christian woman turns into a labor of love. Our sympathies go out chiefly to the stricken husband, for to him they are most needed, realizing as he does that he has lost one who is more than all the world to him. The surviving children who mourn the departure of the best mother on earth, are Frank L., of this cily, and Jay C, Estella, and little six year old Olive, the last three living at the family residence. The funeral services will take place from the residence, nine miles north of the city, at eleven o'clock tomorrow morning, the remains being taken to the Abilene cemetery for interment. Rev. A. Barnes, of the Universalist church in Junction City arrived in the city on this afternoon's train, and will conduct the services. The deceased was in the fifty-ninth tear of her age. She was born in Cortland county, New York, also the birth place of her husband. When nineteen years of age she married, the young couple shortly after removing to Illinois, where they resided until 1880, when they came to Kansas, locating in Abilene. Two years ago the coming June, a removal was made to the present residence. (Abilene Reflector 3-8-1888)
