Description	:	On March 18, 1860, John Hudson Guill, Sr., was united in marriage with Mary Jane Bryan, a native of Missouri and a daughter of John Bryan, born in Tennessee. Guill Passes Away. Came Here as Bride 54 Years Ago. Funeral Probably Will Be Held from Family Home Tomorrow Afternoon. Mrs. Mary Jane Guill, one of the pioneer women of Chico and prominent both in this city and the county, passed away at the family home on Humboldt avenue at 7 o’clock last evening after a long illness. Infirmities of old age was the cause of death. Deceased was seventy-five years old. Mrs. Guill was born in Mooresville, Mo., April 18, 1839. She married John H. Guill, March 18, 1860, and soon started for California across the plains, arriving here in September, 1860. Her husband is prominent among the most skillful and progressive farmers of Butte county. October 5, 1852, Guill purchased a grant on what was known and Tim creek, but which he renamed Little Chico creek. There he built a home to which he brought his bride. Mrs. Guill’s maiden name was Mary Jane Bryan. Her father, John Bryan, was a native of Tennessee. Five months to a day were required for her bridal tour in a prairie schooner from Mooresville to Chico. Together Mr. and Mrs. Guill built up an ideal home on the grant near Chico and reared a large and happy family. Nine children were born by their union. March 18, 1910, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home here. Besides the widower the surviving relatives are three brothers, A.J. Bryan of Chico, T.H. Bryan of Ludlow, Mo., and A.A. Bryan of Chillicothe, Mo.; a sister, Miss America Bryan of Ludlow, Mo.; four sons, L.B. Guill, Ross E. Guill and Assemblyman J.H. Guill, Jr., of Chico and Jay B. Guill of Stockton, and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Potter of Chico. Mrs. Guill was a prominent active member of the Methodist church, South, and Rev. Russell of that church will officiate at the funeral, which probably will be held tomorrow afternoon from the family home.
