Houpt Dead Was Life Long Resident of Sullivan County Mary J. Houpt, wife of Rev. John Wesley Houpt, died at her home half way between Sullivan and Merom, Thursday. Mrs. Houpt was born one and one-half miles southeast of Graysville, March 10, 1844. At the age of ten years she converted and united with the ME church at the old log meeting house on her Grandfather Pinkston's farm, near where Providence M.E. Church now stands. At the age of 18, she was married to Rev. Houpt. To this union eight chidlren were born and all are living. In the fall of 1873, with her husband, they began the Methodist itinerancy. The funeral service was held at Providence church and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. McNaughton, assisted by Rev. T.K. Willis, pastor of the M.E. Church of New Lebanon, and Rev. John Bru?, superannuate of the Indiana conference. Her remains were laid to rest in the Burton Cemetery, on the farm where she was born. ~~ I ONLY LIST FAMILY MEMBERS. ~~
