Description	:	One of the pioneer residents of the county passed away to the Great Beyond on Thursday evening, April 4, at 9:30 o'clock in the person of Mrs. Mary Jane Gordon, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Goetzman, four miles north of the city. Deceased was born in Massachusetts in the year 1817, being 84 years of age at the time of her death. In 1840 she removed to Iowa, coming to Boone county in 1851. Deceased was born in Massachusetts in the year 1817, being 84 years of age at the time of her death. In 1840 she removed to Iowa, coming to Boone county in 1851. Mrs. Gordon was the mother of fifteen children, of whom the greater number have preceded her to the grave. She was a consistent member of the Baptist church. Fifty years is a long span but that is the length of time this estimable old lady spent in Boone county. She came here when it was but a wilderness and lived to see it one of the most flourishing portions of the country. The funeral was held at the Goetzman residence on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, being conducted by Rev. S.E. Wilcox of the Baptist church, and the remains laid to rest in the Bass Point cemetery. The Democrat extends its sincere sympathy to the relatives in their bereavement. Boone County Democrat April 1901 The Democrat is in receipt of the following obituary of Mary J. Gordon, whose death was chronicled in a recent issue: Mary J. Cameray born in Massachusetts June 12, 1816, and was married to Abijah Lamb at the age of eighteen years. They emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio, shortly afterward. To them were born three children, Amanda, Harriett and Clarissa. Mr. Lamb departed this life in the year of 1841. She then removed to Dubuque Iowa. About two years afterward she married Jeremiah Gordon to them were born ten children, seven of whom survive. They moved from there to Washington county, Iowa and thence to Mahaska county, and then to Boone county in the spring of 1851, where she has since lived. Mr. Gordon died November 12, 1881. Since his death she made her home with her daughter, Harriett Goetzman. She has been a member of the Baptist church since 1858. She passed away April 4, 1901 after a short illness of one week at the age of eighty four years, nine months and twenty two days. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wilcox of the Baptist church at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H. Goetzman at 2:30 p.m., Sunday April 7, and laid to rest in the Bass Point cemetery.
