Description	:	In the book "Memories of Orchard" by Charles E Alexander published in 1983 states: Robert John Hamill Sr. and Mary Jane Craig Hamill were immigrants from Ireland and Scotland to the United States in the early twentieth century. Both had livedin this country as young people for several years before their marriage. When they returned to the United States as husband and wife, they settled on a farm near Bancroft, Nebraska. Read More	In the book "Memories of Orchard" by Charles E Alexander published in 1983 states: Robert John Hamill Sr. and Mary Jane Craig Hamill were immigrants from Ireland and Scotland to the United States in the early twentieth century. Both had livedin this country as young people for several years before their marriage. When they returned to the United States as husband and wife, they settled on a farm near Bancroft, Nebraska. They would buy a farm, fix it up and sell lit, moving onto greener pastures. They moved from Pierce, Nebraska to Orchard in 1918. They purchased the present Hamill farm from the late Frank Burch. Since this was near good schools, they decided to stay put. Five children were born to them. Robert Jr., David, Mary Ellen, George and Woodrow, all graduating from the Orchard High School. Mary Ellen taught in the high school and served as principal. She married Dr. Harold Tracey of Orchard. When the Hamills retired and moved into Orchard, Traceys purchased the farm and lived on it for one year. They moved to Falls City in 1943. George Hamill married Charlotte Anson. They farmed around Orchard for a time and bought the place from Traceys in 1960. George and Charlotte made this their home until 1975 when they retired and moved to Orchard. George still owns the farm and their daughter Norma and husband Bill Woodworth and children Jessica and Paul are living on it. Mary Jane Hamill passed away in 1947 and Robert John in 1949, both in the month of April. When the Hamills had been married six years, Mary Jane took the children she had at that time back to Scotland and Ireland for a visit with her family.
