Description	:	John Quincy Brink and family, along with his brother-in-law Jonathan Cryder, were early pioneers of Graham Community. These gentlemen purchased the Graves Plantation on August 22, 1865 which they sold a year later in September of 1866. After the sale of this farm, John Quincy moved into Graham and engaged in the mercantile business and was for a large time identified with such interests there. He served as postmaster for a short time in 1869. As advancing years came to him however, he decided to retire from active commercial affairs and from that time until his death he lived quietly... Mary Jane Cryder was born 11 Feb 1830 in Springfield Twp., Hopetown, Ross, Ohio; the sister of Jonathan Cryder; and daughter of Benjamin and Frances "Fanny" (Coover) Cryder. Mary was a descendent of the Michael Kreider family that emigrated from Switzerland and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Several branches of this family also use the spelling "Crider". Mary was united in marriage 03 Mar 1854 in Ross County, Ohio with John Quincy Brink; son of Robert S. and Charity (Huffman) Brink. Mary and John were the parents of four children: 1.) Martha Ellen "Mattie" born 15 Jun 1854 married Joseph "Harlan" Bohart 2.) John Robert "J.R." born 27 Sep 1857 married Helen Marguerite Kavanaugh 3.) Mary Elizabeth "Libbie" (1860-1876) 4.) Emma Jane born 11 May 1861 Jacob W. Spencer Mary, age 66, passed away 20 Jul 1896 and was laid to rest at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Graham. John remarried 10 Feb 1897 to Mrs. Rebecca O. Gillis-Cryder, his nephew Frank's widow. John, age 77, passed away 21 Feb 1907 and is buried beside his first wife, Mary, at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Graham. ----------------------------------------- The Nodaway Democrat, 23 Jul 1896 Mrs. Mary Brink, wife of J.Q. Brink, of Graham, Mo., died Monday morning, of heart trouble at their home near that town. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Graham on Wednesday at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Brink was sixty-six years old and the mother of three children. J.R. Brink of this city, Mrs. J.W. Spencer of St. Joseph, and Mrs. J.H. Bohart of Graham. J.R. Brink and family attended the funeral. She was a good woman and has been called to her reward.
