Description	:	Mary J. Hathaway was born in Cataragus Co. New York, Nov. 26, 1835. She moved with her parents to Marian, New York in her early life and was married to Luther H. Whiting Oct. 30, 1856. Their home was then at Newark, New York until the war broke out, she then went with their three small children to Marian and stayed with her mother until her husband's return. Hathaway was born in Cataragus Co. New York, Nov. 26, 1835. She moved with her parents to Marian, New York in her early life and was married to Luther H. Whiting Oct. 30, 1856. Their home was then at Newark, New York until the war broke out, she then went with their three small children to Marian and stayed with her mother until her husband's return. Shortly after the close of the war they moved to Monticello, Iowa, in Sept. 1868 here they resided about 10 years. They then came to Albion, Nebr., in 1878 where they remained until she passed away June 14, 1913, at 5 o'clock p.m. Unto them were born nine children. Five were born in New York, Mrs. Ida Young, of Monticello, Iowa, Mrs. Dora Anthony of Chicago, Ill., Ella Cooley, Mrs. Nora West and Artemus W. of Albion, Nebr. Three were born in Iowa. Frank E., Luther Adelbert and Lenord E., and Ray C. was born in Nebr. All of whom are present today but Ida Young who was unable to be here on account of her husband's illness. The mother's death is the first to break the immediate family ties with the exception of four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was converted in Monticello, Iowa, in 1870 and joined the Methodist Episcopal church and lived a consistant member until death. Mrs. Whiting was a most estimable woman, a kind loving mother and a splendid neighbor. During her long residence here she made a great many friends who were greatly saddened by her death and who extend to the bereaved husband their heartfelt sympathy. The funeral was held from the Methodist church Tuesday morning at ten o'clock conducted by Rev. Main, and the body laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery.
