Description	:	Mrs. Mary J. Caldwell was born in Morgan County, Illinois, September 28, 1848, was married to Smith T. Caldwell in December, 1869, died in our city November 12, 1907, aged 59 years, 1 month and 14 days. Eight children were born to this union, two of them, with her husband, having been called to that great beyond. Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell were among the earliest settlers of Nebraska, taking their homestead three miles southwest of Edgar where they resided until the husband's death in 1903. The last few years of her life have been spent at her home in Edgar. Besides four sons and two daughters she leaves four brothers and an aged mother to mourn her loss. The funeral was conducted at the Methodist Church last Friday afternoon by rev. T.H. Worley of Wymore, assisted by Rev. E.N. Tompkins of the Methodist Church, a large number of friends were present to pay their last respects to the woman whom they had known and associated with for so many years. Well may her children cherish her memory as a precious legacy and **fain would say a word of comfort to the stricken ones. We can but let our tears flow in sympathy with theirs, and point them to the promise, "At eventide it shall be light."
