Description	:	Funeral services for Mary J. (Jennie) Patten, 81, were conducted Saturday, July 9, 1988 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. A lifelong Brooklyn area resident, she died unexpectedly Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She became ill early that morning, was airlifted to the hospital and died from an apparent heart attack. The Rev. Kalen Fristad, church pastor, officiated at the 11 a.m. service and Sybil Kelly was organist. Burial was at Brooklyn Cemetery. Mary Jane (Jennie) Morrison was born Oct. 26, 1906 in Poweshiek County, south of Brooklyn, the daughter of Samuel and Mary E. Morrison. As a youngster she received her education in a rural school and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1925. She and Howard Patten were neighbors and attended rural school together. On July 4, 1925 they were united in marriage in Brooklyn and they always made their home in Brooklyn. He died March 6, 1970. The couple were the parents of one daughter, Shirley Jane. Jennie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1927, a member of the UMW, Esther Circle and had been a Pythian Sister for well over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her stepfather, Claude B. Keeney; a sister, Vera Belland; and a brother, Cecil (Red) Morrison. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bob Niemann; one grandson, Eric Niemann, all of Brooklyn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virgie Patten of Independence, Kan., Ruth and Ernest Bowman, Pine Bluff, Wyo., Harry Patten of Blairstown and Jack Patten of Brooklyn and Dorothy Morrison of Brookhaven and nieces and nephews.
