She was so thankful for her relationship with her sister-in-law, Enid. She lived her entire life here in Noble, IN, USA. She was m. on 31 Aug 1934 to Avon Schwab who d. Easter Sunday, 1985. They were m. for 50-1/2 years. Her only Son, Avon Hugh remembers how she used to make Christmas cookies or prepare food for many shut-ins around town. She would load up the car and ask him to run them up to the door. He was always of the opinion that she should keep more of the cookies at home but she was concerned abt. the ones that did not have any at all. There of course were always plenty at home as well. He learned the importance of sharing and very much missed delivering these cookies when he finally went away to school. She was largely responsible for her Son's self confidence as she always seemed to be there for him and was very supportive of everything he set out to do including keeping a secret of her Son's less than auspicious start at Purdue University. She rarely missed any event that in which Avon Hugh participated. She taught Sunday school at St. Mark's and had the class that taught Luther's catechism. She always made sure that her class knew how lucky she felt she was to be a Lutheran. Mary Jane was a long time member of St. Mark 's Von Bora Class as well as the church affiliated Progress Club. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She always had a good word abt. everyone. When the family moved to Skinner Lake, she particularly enjoyed her rose garden, keeping her yard and home immaculate and still had time to go fishing with her Son aft. school. After retirement Mary and her husband wintered in Florida for 13 years or so. She was a very devoted mother, Grandmother, wife, sister and Dau. It seems to Avon Hugh that they visited both Grandmother's homes nearly every weekend. She cleaned house and shopped for her mother when she became older. She dearly loved her Grandchildren. Anytime the family had a problem she was there for us. She was certainly among the world's finest and most devoted homemakers and mothers. She loved these important positions. She was elected president of her Son's fraternity's Mother's Club when he was only freshman at Purdue. She and her husband were involved with teaching adults learn how to read or develop their reading skills. She cherished her freedom, being at home and was proud to maintain her independence. She wanted to stay in Albion where all her friends, her church and her memories were. People such as Imogene Long and Delores Coy supplied the care she needed to remain in Albion and have her own place. Her family thanks them for their support. We do not know what we would have done without her sister, Enid and her husband, Dwight. We love them dearly for their love, help and support. Dwight was there for her to do the "Mr. fix-it" things and helped plant the flowers outside at her apartment. In the past few years she entertained herself by reading 10 to 12 books a week. This was a life long passion, one which she did not fulfill until recently. She often stated how lucky she felt she was. She even felt lucky to be part of the Schwab family and helped carry out traditions that will be carried out by her family. These traditions included homemade vegetable soup for Christmas Eve Dinner and Chicken & Egg Noodles served over a mound of mashed potatoes. It will be impossible to remember her without a smile. We will sometimes shed tears when we remember her, but tears will come because we miss her. Her family will always remember her for her love.
