Description	:	Services for Mary Jane Fairbanks, 83, of Logan, Utah, formerly of Norfolk and Columbus, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mary Jane died at Legacy House in Logan, Utah, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, and will be buried with her beloved husband Lowell at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Norfolk. Mary Jane died at Legacy House in Logan, Utah, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, and will be buried with her beloved husband Lowell at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Norfolk. Mary Jane was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Lindsay to Joe and Mary (Schmidt) Schaefer. She attended Catholic school in Lindsay and graduated from St. Bonaventure in Columbus. On March 10, 1953, she married the love of her life, Lowell Fairbanks, and they had seven children together. Mary Jane stayed home to raise her children while Lowell was in the military for 23 years. Lowell’s military service took them to many different places including Greenville, South Carolina; Lincoln; Berkshire, England; Omaha; Guam and Minot, North Dakota. After Lowell’s military career ended they retired in Norfolk to be close to family and later moved to Columbus. While living in Norfolk Mary Jane managed the service department at Sears while continuing to take care of her children. They were members of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk and St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Volunteering was more than just a pastime for Mary Jane, it was her calling. She was named the 1997 Community Care of America Volunteer of the Year. She also helped at funeral dinners, delivered Meals on Wheels, and worked at the food pantry. She loved to play card games and dominoes with her sisters, making crafts, cross stitching and going to Bible studies. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Jane is survived by her children Barry of Louviers, Colorado, Bob and Kathy of Logan, Utah, Trish of Prescott, Arizona, Rick and Mary Kay of Spokane, Washington, and Carol and Rick Anderson of Norfolk; 15 grandchildren Seth and Levi Fairbanks, Derrick Hoefler, Chris, Travis and Chad Fairbanks, Shannon Wulf-Treger, Jennifer Wulf, Rachael, Ellie and Clare Fairbanks, Brandon Anderson, Melissa Marotz and Alex and Eric Anderson; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters Arlene Preister of Castle Rock, Colorado, Joan and Bud Sackett of Columbus and Joyce and Allen Cooley and Sherry and Bob Howell, all of Elko, Nevada; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Elaine Fairbanks of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lowell; two children Sandra and David; and siblings Jeannette Maquire, Wilma Hafferland, Ethel Riley and Ken Schaeffer.
