Description	:	Miss Mary Jane Whittington, for the past sixteen years a resident of this city, passed away at her home here at 1:25 last Friday afternoon, following an illness of about six weeks' duration. She had appeared to be improving from her illness until about a week prior to her death when she suffered a spinal stroke, after which no hope was entertained for her recovery. Her mind remained clear till the last, however, and realizing she could not recover shed calmly made ready to meet her Maker. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by her former pastor, Rev. A.M. McIntosh of Sioux City, assisted by Rev. Robt. H. Forrester, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Mary Jane Whittington was born near Blenheim, Ontario, Canada, Feb. 21, 1857, and died in Hawarden March 7, 1930, having reached the age of 73 years and 16 days. She lived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Whittington, for about 55 years, her mother passing to her reward in 1905, after which she made a home for her father until his death in 1913. A year after her father's death she came to Hawarden and has since made her home here. She lived with her sister, Mrs. Sarah J. Finnie, until the latter's death in September, 1926. Since then she has continued to reside in her own home, although most of the time she has shared it with other people. In youth Miss Whittington united with the Methodist Episcopal church, being a regular participant in its services for about forty years. After moving to Hawarden she went with the families of her brother and sister to the Presbyterian church, of which she later became a member, being known as one of the most faithful attendants and workers in the Associated church of this city. Among the members of her family who survive are two brothers and one sister, Ed. Whittington of Hawarden; William Whittington of Blenheim, Ontario, and Mrs. George Birkinshaw of Rocanville, Saskatchewan, Canada, all of whom were here for the funeral. Miss Whittington lived the life of a truly devout Christian and her devotion to the work of her Master was second only to her solicitude for the welfare of the members of her family whom she served throughout a long life of loving self sacrifice. She will be greatly missed in the circles in which she moved so quietly and without ostentation and the sincere sympathy of all is extended to the members of her family.
