Mary Jane Allen, the aged wife of the venerable David Allen, who lives in Alexander township, died at her late home Saturday while preparing dinner. She was eighty years old last January and had been married sixty-one years last May. Mary Jane Allen, the aged wife of the venerable David Allen, who lives in Alexander township, died at her late home Saturday while preparing dinner. She was eighty years old last January and had been married sixty-one years last May. She came with her husband to Athens county in 1847 and, excepting sixteen years they lived in Athens township, she lived at the old home where she died. She was the mother of seven children, all of whom survive her: Capt. J. B. Allen, clerk of the supreme court; John Allen, George Allen, Addison Allen, Mrs. Chas. Townsend, Mrs. C. D. Gist and Mrs. Lille Fuller. There are sixteen grandchildren, all of whom were present at the funeral except one who was in the far west. There are no great grandchildren. Strange to say hers was the first death in the family. Although living four score years she was spared the sorrow of burying any member of the family. The funeral took place from the residence of her son, Capt. J. B. Allen, at his residence west of town on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. G. Walton King of the Presbyterian church. A large concourse of people assembled to pay their tribute of respect to a noble, kind-hearted and generous woman. Her four sons and two grandsons, John Gist and Earl Fuller, acted as pall bearers.
