Description	:	Mary Jean Briggs, 73, devoted wife and mother, passed peacefully at home on December 15, 2006. Surrounded by family in her Bridgeport home, Mary briefly but courageously struggled through the effects of cancer. She was born in Seattle, WA to Albert F. and Tillie S. Surrounded by family in her Bridgeport home, Mary briefly but courageously struggled through the effects of cancer. She was born in Seattle, WA to Albert F. and Tillie S. Monesmith on October 31, 1933, as the youngest of their seven children. The family eventually moved to the Wenatchee area and Mary graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1952. Shortly after graduation from high school, Mary entered the United States Army, serving in the Women's Army Corp from 1952-54. While in the Army, Mary was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Once back in Wenatchee, Mary met her husband, Donald H. Briggs, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Mary and Don lived in Ephrata for a short time, starting their family with two daughters, Kerry and Cathy, before moving to Renton for a few years and finally settling for the last 40 years in the Downing Townsite neighborhood of Bridgeport where their youngest, a son, Richard was born. Mary was always be remembered as a woman who deeply enjoyed her home and family as she dedicated her life to caring for them as a full-time homemaker. During the summer, Mary gardened extensively when her children were at home. It has been said that she grew and canned enough food to feed the ntire Downing Townsite neighborhood for a year. Her family and friends will always remember Mary's delicious dill pickles and her signature tomato juice. During cold winter months, friends and family alike, knew that Mary would always have an open door and a warm fire to chase away the chill. She could often be found working a jigsaw or crossword puzzle, and was known to be a trivia nut who could compete with the best Jeopardy contestants from her living room chair. Mary also enjoyed a good card game and loved having friends and family over for a fun night of Pinochle or Spades. Additionally, many of her children's friends learned how to play Cribbage at Mary's dining room table. Her laughter when she skunked her opponent will forever be remembered. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Albert Monesmith; her mother and roll model, Tillie Rolles; her step-father; Leo Rolles; a sister, Esther Robillard; and four brothers, Russell, Harold, Donald and Albert Monesmith. She leaves behind her loving husband, Donald at home in Bridgeport; a sister, Betty Dodson and her husband, Don of Leavenworth; two daughters, Kerry Housdon and her husband, John of Brewster and Cathy Thompson and her husband, Patrick of Naches; and a son, Richard Briggs and his wife, Cary of East Wenatchee; nine living grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the Okanogan-Douglas County Home Health and Hospice staff who have made Mary's journey as comfortable as possible and have been a tremendous support and comfort for the family. A Tribute Service will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Barnes Chapel, Brewster, with Pastor Dan Ahlenius officiating. Private Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, East Wenatchee. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children or a favorite charity. Services are under the direction of Barnes Chapel, P.O. Box 249, Brewster, WA 98812.
