Jean was born Mary Jean Moore on October 6, 1919, in Wichita, Kansas to Edward and Stella Moore. Read More	Mary Jean Meenen October 6, 1919 - March 15, 2014 Jean Meenen, 94 yrs, passed quietly in the early morning hours of March 15, 2014, at home. Jean was born Mary Jean Moore on October 6, 1919, in Wichita, Kansas to Edward and Stella Moore. Jean graduated from Wichita North High School and received her Bachelor's degree in Music from Friends University, Wichita in 1940. After college, Jean briefly taught high school in Milan, Kansas. When WWII broke out she worked for a time as assistant statistician for fuel rationing for the state of Kansas. Jean's love for adventure and music then led her to become active in the USO, where she became a recreation director for the American Red Cross and served at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, TX. Following the war Jean moved to Hollywood, CA, taking a job as assistant cashier with the Colonial Insurance Agency. It was there that she and the love of her life, Allen Meenen, were married in September of 1946, at Wee Kirk o' the Heather Wedding Chapel in Glendale, CA. They located in San Diego, CA where Allen was working. It was there that their first 2 children, Cheri and Dennis, were born. In 1950, Jean and Allen moved their family to Fremont, NE to take over the family farm. Marilyn, their third child, was born in 1956. After the move to Fremont, Jean taught piano, was the leader of the Happy Clovers 4-H Club, and a member of the New Homebuilders Extension Club. She became a member of the board of the Fremont Community Concert Series and was President when it became the Fremont-Midland Entertainment Series. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jean was active in Presbyterian Women's organizations, was a Deacon, an Elder, sang in the choir and played in the bell choir. Jean especially enjoyed playing her beloved bells as a soloist in many venues. In 1973, with her children grown, Jean became a realtor and sold for Jenkins, Markus, and Eagle Real-Estate Companies, and nearly lost her life in the Pathfinder Hotel explosion. In 1976, Jean acquired her broker's license and started Meenen Real-Estate and was instrumental in bringing Burger King, Arby's and Taco del Sol to town. Jean and Allen enjoyed camping, square dancing and travel. They belonged to Pathfinders Good Sam chapter for which Jean was historian for 8 years. They traveled extensively in Europe, including trips that took them to Germany, to visit extended family, Russia, Poland, Ireland, France and Italy. They cruised the Caribbean and took mission trips to Mexico. Jean and Allen also traveled to all parts of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. After a life well lived, left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Allan, her children, Cheri and Jim Shatto, Fostoria, IA, Dennis and Karen Meenen, Berthoud, CO, Marilyn and Ron Spooner, Omaha, NE; her 5 grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Hart, Ft. Collins, CO, Andrew Meenen, Longmont, CO, Sean Shatto, Chicago, IL, Nicole (Aaron) Klor, Springfield, MO, Alycia Timm, Altoona, IA; her 7 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Senessa and Aiden Hart, Jesse Meenen, Lilly, Henry and Theodore Klor; many extended family and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother. Funeral service will be 10 :00 A.M. Saturday March 22, 2014 at the Presbyterian Church in Fremont. The Rev. Earl Underwood will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, NE. Memorials may be given to the church. Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N. Somers Ave. Fremont, NE 68025 402-721-4490
