Mary Jean Butts, the daughter of Hugh Grant and Clara Christmas Bell(Bagnett)Smithers, was born on April 19, 1928 at Dayton, OH. Her parents died when Jean was a young girl and she spent a short time with extended family before entering the Old Soldiers and Sailors Home for orphaned children in Zena, OH. She graduated from the Orphanage and attended Ohio State University, graduating with a degree in Dental Hygiene.She began her career as a dental hygienist with the United States Air Force. On August 12, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Doyle E. Butts at Dayton, OH. Upon Doyle's discharge from service in the early 1950's, they moved to Sidney where Jean began working for Dr. Murrey and completed her career in the dental clinics with Dr. Koch and Dr. Platz. Jean enjoyed card making, stamping, her precious pets, crochet and anything relating to crafts. She was formerly active with her Sorority and the Sidney Elks Lodge. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for more than fifty years and her life centered around her family and extended family. Survivors include: her husband: Doyle of Sidney; (2) sons: Greg Butts and wife Lana and Kent Butts and wife Sara both of Sidney; (1) daughter-in-law: Maureen Butts of Ogallala, NE; (1) brother: Tom Ross and wife Cecil of Lebanon, OH; (2) sisters: Bessie Hughes of Pataskala, OH and Delores Schmidt of Butler, PA; (3) sisters-in-law: Erla Thompson of Sidney, Deana Butts of Lakewood, CO and Mary Lou Justen of Warner Robbins, GA; (1) brother-in-law: Larry Butts and wife Bonnie of Orlando, FL; (9) grandchildren: Chad Butts and wife Catherine of San Diego, CA, Christopher Butts and wife Stephanie of Loveland, CO, Alex Butts of Lewisville, TX, Kacey Norman and husband Chad of Oak Point, TX, Renae Butts of Omaha, NE, Michael Butts of Sidney, Mathew Butts and fiancé Corey Sims of Sidney, Justin Butts and Mikaela Butts also of Sidney; (10) great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, (1) son: Irvin Earl Butts; (1) sister: Rena Murphy and (3) brothers-in-law: Roger Butts, F. Blaine Thompson and Bernard Justen.
