Mary Jo was born May 17, 1954 at Holdrege, the fourth of ten children born to Merle and Alice (Voichahoske) Divis. She was baptized and confirmed at the All Saints Catholic Church. Mary Jo received her education from Holdrege Public Schools, where she graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1972. She then pursued higher education at the Grand Island School of Business. On February 24, 1973 she was united in marriage to Dan Jones at the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege. To this union three children were born: Jeremy, Joshua and Sara. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Mary Jo focused her efforts on being a mother and homemaker when the children were young. She was then employed at Christian Homes, and later the Phelps County Assessor’s Office, where she was currently employed at the time of her passing. Mary Jo was devoted to her Catholic faith, and active in her church. Her family was always foremost in her life. She especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Divis; grandson, Jace Ryan Jones; one sister, Janice Divis; one brother, Michael Divis; father-in-law, Jim Jones; two nieces: Nicole Kielhorn and Renna Divis; and brother-in-law, Perry Meier. Mary Jo leaves to celebrate her life; her husband of 42 years, Dan Jones of Holdrege; two sons: Jeremy Jones and his wife, Jody of Norwalk, Iowa and Josh Jones and his wife, Tori of Holdrege; one daughter, Sara Hammond and her husband, Arik of Republican City, Nebraska; her parents: Merle and Addie Divis of Holdrege; nine grandchildren: Chloe, Carstyn & Caylen Jones, Jaylee & Jaycee Jones, Tyson & Isaac McCurdy, and Kallie & Banks Hammond; mother-in-law, Maxine Jones of Holdrege; two brothers: Father Jim Divis of Seward, Nebraska and Jeff Divis and his wife, Dorothy of Pinson, Alabama; five sisters: Kathy Zeller and her husband, Dick of Ogallala, Nebraska, Connie Kielhorn and her husband, Dr. Alden Kielhorn of Chandler, Arizona, Cheryl Gustafson and her husband, Jeff of Sutton, Nebraska, Teresa Meier of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Jeanette Nedrig and her husband, Russ of Holdrege; step-brother, Larry Tomcak and his wife, Mary of Hastings, Nebraska; two step-sisters: Charlene Scoville and her husband, Lorin of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Connie Hanna and her husband, John of York, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Book Signing was held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. A memorial has been established in Mary Jo’s honor and kindly suggested to the All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege.
