Those serving as acolytes were Tim Mahoney, Phillip Gibbs and Ronnie Keller. Following mass, burial was made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers were: B.J. Moriarity, Melvin Stolz, Virgil Lyons, John Fibikar, Perry Elsberry and Charles Healy. Many beautiful flowers, spiritual bouquets and other expressions of sympathy were received by the family from relatives, neighbors and friends. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Roy Warden and Mrs. John Fibikar. Mary Josephine Hartman, daughter of Charles Fredrick and Myrtle (Merryman) Hartman, was born in Madrid, Boone County, January 14, 1906. She attended school at St. Joseph's Academy in Des Moines, graduating in 1927. She was employed in Des Moines until her ‘marriage to Michael F. Lacey, Boone, May 7th, 1932. Six children were horn to them; Thomas, James, John, Joanna, Patricia and Michael, Jr. A member of St. Mary's Parish since her marriage, the late Mrs. Lacey took an active part in the Altar Society and she was also active in groups of the Church of the Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart School, where most of the Lacey children attended school. She was especially active in the. Parent-Teacher Association and had served as a county P.T.A. President. In connection with her church work, the deceased devoted a great deal of time and effort in assisting with parish dinners and other projects, including the various activities sponsored by the Sacred Heart Athletic Association since its organization. She was also well known throughout Boone County for her work in various groups, including' the Farm Bureau Women, and she served on various civic and county committees for heart fund campaigns and cancer fund drives. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and also belonged to other lodge and social groups of the community. Preceded in death by her father and two brothers, the deceased is survived by her husband, M. F. Lacey, Route 3, Boone, and six children: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lacey of St. Paul, Minnesota, Airman second class John J. Lacey, stationed at Sioux City, Joanna of Des Moines, Patty, James and Michael, Jr. at home. Also surviving are three grandsons and one granddaughter, her mother, Mrs. Edward Mabis of Grandby, Missouri, three sisters, Mrs. Buckley Duane of Los Angeles, California, the former Louise Hartman, Mrs. Eric Peterson of LeMars, Iowa, formerly Vera Hartman, and Mrs. Ernest Clair of Des Moines, the former Alberta Hartman, and one brother, Charles Hartman of Los Angeles, California, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Those attending the funeral services from out of the city were: Mrs. Ernest Clair and son, Billy, Mrs. C. F. Shuey and Audrey, Mrs. Mary Carroll, Mrs. Forrest Caulfield, all of Des Moines, Mrs. Theresa Gannon and daughter, Frances, of Mingo, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vest and Johnny of Marshalltown.
