Brown" PLAINFIELD-Mary J. Hastings, daughter of Norman and Hannah Hastings, was born Oct. 11, 1860, at Halfday, Ill., and passed from this life at her home northeast of Plainfield, in the early morning of Oct. 30, 1934, having reached her seventy-fourth birthday only a few days before. At the age of 20 Mrs. Brown joined the Methodist church of Plainfield, Iowa. This has been her church home ever since. She has resided in this community for 35 years. On Oct. 11, 1885, she was united in marriage to William S. Brown, who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1933. She leaves to mourn her going, three foster children: Bessie Patnode of Land O' Lakes, Wis., Earl at home, and Ray of New Hampton. There are also seven grandchildren, one sister, and three brothers. Besides these there are a host of relatives and friends. On June 10, Mrs. Brown suffered a stroke, never fully recovering. However, she was able to enjoy the visits of friends up until the last few days of her life. Mrs. Brown was a friend to all, a neighbor whose memory will long be cherished by all who knew her. This came back to her during her illness in the faithful, untiring, and devoted care she enjoyed as her son, Earl, and wife, cared for her, doing all that could be done. Her going brings deeps sorrow upon them and all who knew her. Our loss is her gain. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon. Rev. A. VanBeschoten officiating. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery, Nashua.
