On one of the marriage transcriptions in ancestry.com, her place of birth has been transcribed as Wisconsin. By viewing the actual record, it may be seen that her place of birth was given as Missouri. There is another transcription in ancestry that is correct. On one of the marriage transcriptions in ancestry.com, her place of birth has been transcribed as Wisconsin. By viewing the actual record, it may be seen that her place of birth was given as Missouri. There is another transcription in ancestry that is correct. In the 1925 Census for Ottumwa, Iowa, Mary's parents were named as James and Nettie (Ramsey) Echart. Her obituary which I have transcribed below, named her parents as Mr. and Mrs. Sam Erhart. I believe this is an error, as Sam was her brother. --------------- When I first made this memorial, I made this comment in the biography: "I have researched this carefully, and I believe that Mary’s parents were James and Libbie Ehrhart, buried in the Brooks Cemetery in New London, Iowa. The obituary for Rachel Ann Liblin named a surviving sister Mrs. Mary Clawson of Ottumwa and a surviving brother Sam Erhardt of Mt. Pleasant. Rachel was actually Mary’s half-sister, the daughter of James and his second wife Mary Jane Freese. However, Libbie’s maiden name is given as Mefford on her memorial, and I am not certain these are the correct parents, so I have not linked her to them." On February 23, 2021, I received an edit, requesting that I link Mary to James and Liddie as her parents. I spent considerable time researching this all again. I can find nothing in the records for Lydia aka Liddie. I do not find her in any census records under Ramsey, Mefford, Erhardt, or Ehrhart, and I cannot find any marriage records for her. According to the findagrave marriage links, James and Liddie were married in 1866. However, I find Mary C. Ehrhart, age 2, in the 1870 Census for Morris, Sullivan County, Missouri, living with her father James, age 47, and his wife Maria, age 32. I am very confused by all of this conflicting information. However, Mary did name Lydia Ramsey as her mother, and after careful consideration, on March 10, 2021, I decided to accept this request to link Mary to James and Liddie as her parents. If anyone has further information on this family or finds Lydia/Liddie in any official records, please let me know. --------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 18, 1950: Death Comes At 83 To Mrs. O.L. Clawson Mrs. Mary Katherine Clawson, 83, of 709 North Ash street, died Sunday at 3:55 p.m. at the Ottumwa hospital. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Erhart, she was born November 4, 1867, in Sullivan county, Mo. Her marriage to Orrin L. Clawson took place in 1885 at Mt. Pleasant. A resident here since 1889, she was a member of the Wesley Methodist church. Mrs. Clawson is survived by two sons, Ornie E. Clawson and William H. Clawson, both of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother Sam Erhart of Mt. Pleasant. Preceding her in death was her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Dale; and two sons, Charles M. and Milford W. Clawson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Reece funeral home in charge of the Rev. Wilson Hyde of the Wesley Methodist church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers: John Dale, Charles W. Clawson, Richard R. Clawson, William Erhart, Harold Hazelwood and William Hazelwood.
