Description	:	Mary Katherine Erpelding was born January 18, 1931, on a farm southeast of Whittemore, daughter of George and Leona (Fandel) Streit. Her education started at the country school northeast of the farm and graduated from Presentation Academy high school in 1948. Mary Katherine was married to Marvin C. Erpelding on October 23, 1951, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. They farmed south of Algona and in 1956 moved to her Maternal Grandparents farm where she was born. They purchased the farm raising their family of thirteen children there. They farmed there for 55 years. She was very proud of... Read More	Mary Katherine Erpelding was born January 18, 1931, on a farm southeast of Whittemore, daughter of George and Leona (Fandel) Streit. Her education started at the country school northeast of the farm and graduated from Presentation Academy high school in 1948. Mary Katherine was married to Marvin C. Erpelding on October 23, 1951, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. They farmed south of Algona and in 1956 moved to her Maternal Grandparents farm where she was born. They purchased the farm raising their family of thirteen children there. They farmed there for 55 years. She was very proud of the farm designation as a Centennial Farm, being in the same family for over 100 years. She loved being with her family and enjoyed sewing, baking, embroidery work, and working in her flower garden. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the America. She is survived by 13 children, David (Joleen) Erpelding of Lake View, Therese Erpelding of West Des Moines, Gene (Shelly) Erpelding of Edgeley, ND, Jerome Erpelding of Pierz, MN, Mark (Melinda) Erpelding of Algona, Dennis Erpelding of Indianapolis, IN, Duane Erpelding of Algona, Sue (Dan) Schmitz of Des Moines, Diana (Sharm) Wenndt of Davenport, Donna (Joe) Henkels of Granger, Karen (Mike) Kordick of Norwalk, Lou (Coe) Erpelding of Winterset, and Kevin (Denise) Erpelding of Washington; 27 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Rita (John) Reinders of Highland, MI; two brothers, Rev. Mr. Gerald (Ellen) Streit of West Bend, and Paul (Marilyn) Streit of North Mankato, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Mary Katherine died Friday, May 17, 2013, in Algona, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin on August 3, 2011; one sister, Coletta Cahill, and three brothers, Cletus, Bernard, and Edward Streit.
