Thursday, September 3, 2020 at the funeral home. Inurnment: At a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Westgate, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as recommended by the Governor of Iowa, social distancing will be required. Because Mary believed in science and the voice of medical experts, masks will be mandatory at the visitation. We encourage relatives and friends not able to attend the service to reach out to the family by leaving a message on the funeral home web site, by mail, text or phone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to the Hiawatha Care Center. Mary Kathryn McCue was born June 24, 1935, in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Edna (Fox) McCue. In 1952, she graduated from Maynard High School in Maynard, Iowa. In 1961, she was united in marriage to Gary Redmon and they later divorced. Mary worked as a switchboard operator for Collins Radio, which later became Rockwell Collins. She worked for many years at First National Bank in Oelwein, starting as a bookkeeper, working her way up the ladder, becoming the head of accounting. Mary was the only female officer at the bank at that time. After that she moved to Banks of Iowa Computer Service, where she trained other banking employees on the newest banking software. She retired on June 24, 1997. While living in Oelwein, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mary also was a member of the Oelwein American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer for several years. Mary was a lifelong Democrat and avid watcher of MSNBC. She enjoyed bowling, pool, golf, playing Farkle, Bingo and other dice games. Mary moved to the Hiawatha Care Center in October of 2017. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter: Greta Redmon of Marion; and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
