Read More	Mary Kiger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kiger. She married William Cruit on 27 Mar 1856 in Fairfield County, Ohio. Cruit) ------------------- OBITUARY Again the messenger of God descended to this earthly plane and plucked from our midst a woman of unbounded integrity and practices, in the person of Mary Cruit, wife of the late William Cruit of Hocking township, Fairfield county, Ohio, near Lancaster, where she had lived almost 50 years. She has now departed from her earthly tabernacle to a house not made with hand in the heavens. She was born December 11th, 1834 and died January 21st, 1915, aged 80 years, one month and 10 days. Sister Cruit leaves five devoted children, John B. Cruit, Mrs. I. W. Crist, Mrs. Albert Hine, Mrs. R. W. Mondhank and Mrs. J. W. Hughes. Also 17 grand children and eight great grand children, with many other relatives and a host of friends. Although her suffering was great and seemingly almost beyond endurance she bore it with patience, relying on Him who has said, seek ye not My face in vain. She became a member of the church in early life and has lived a faithful and consistent Christian life. She now liens on the bosom of the blessed Savior, and she now is singing songs of redeeming love. We cannot know till we too cross the dark river of death, that in the distance seems wide to the father shore. Throughout her years here on earth she lived an exemplary life. She raised a family of high respectability who realize the loss of an indulgent and loving mother. That they have the light of her exemplary life stamped on memory's tablet to guide them aright through life, none knew here but to love her. Her gentle and charitable life will never be forgotten by those who were benefited by her help. Thus the mothers are falling, precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his salvation they rest from their labors and their works do follow them, yet we should not mourn, as our lose is her eternal gain. She had made her peace with God in the days of youth. What a blessing to be prepared for death. Thus has passed from us dear mother, and our loss we deeply feel, and yet could the veil between us and her be drawn aside and we see the blessed state of holy enjoyment we would say Oh mother stay where thou art; come not back again to suffer in this vale of tears, we'll meet thee by and by. Kind, loving children and neighbors did all they could to make the evening of life to her pleasant and peaceful. The trials and sorrows of 80 years bore heavily upon her and calmly and peacefully she resigned to her Creator. Mother is dead, but thank God her works live on and on and we realize today that to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. The funeral services were held at Mt. Zion M. E. church at one o'clock p. m. January 21st, 1915, and were conducted by Rev. W. A. Whitmer, assisted by Rev. L. M. Baker of Lancaster. The remains were intered (sic) in the Amanda township cemetery. A cement stone vault decorated with evergreen and flowers had been prepared as a casket receptacle for the beautiful casket. The large attendance at her funeral speaks to us in silent but emphatic language of the high esteem and profound respect of Mother Cruit. "Mother Cruit has gone to the land of the blest, Where the flowers for ever will bloom, No troubles are there to disturb her from rest. Be prepared and you to may come soon." Relatives in attendance from a distance were Mrs. Philina Kerns, Elmer Kerns and Lucious Richey, all of Van Wert, Ohio. I. W. C. --------------------- Obituary of Mary Kiger Cruit found in The Lancaster Daily Eagle, dated 21 Jan 1915: FOLLOWING The Fourth Stroke of Paralysis, Mrs. Mary Cruit Passes Away at An Early Hour on Thursday Morning Following a fourth stroke of paralysis, Mrs. Mary Cruit, widow of Wm. Cruit, died at one o'clock Thursday morning at her home on Cedar Hill Road. She was born north of Lancaster 80 years ago and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kiger. Mrs. Cruit is survived by five children, namely, Mrs. Albert Hine and Mrs. R. W. Mondhank of Lancaster, Mrs. I. W. Crist of near Columbus, Mrs. J. W. Hughes and Mr. J. R. Cruit residing west of the city. Seventeen grandchildren also survive. She has been critically ill about three weeks. The funeral will be held at one o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Mt. Zion church, conducted by Rev. A. A. Turner. Burial will take place in the Amanda township cemetery.
