Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com Mary L. Cripps, daughter of John and Florence (Hites) Kreb, was born on January 18, 1932 in rural Blackhawk County. She attended Dunkerton High School, graduating with the class of 1950. She also graduated from the Evangelical School of Nursing in 1954, becoming a Registered Nurse. On June 17, 1956 she was united in marriage to Russell Cripps at the Open Bible Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: James and John. The couple has resided in Marshalltown for over 50 years. Mary was a nurse at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center for a few years before deciding to provide private home health care. She was always sure to plant a garden every year, canning many quarts of green beans and tomatoes. She also enjoyed the outdoors, family trips to Colorado and Missouri, and especially fishing trips to Minnesota, Union Grove, and Pine Lakes. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Marshalltown, and participated in the American Baptist Women, White Cross, and Ruth Circle Church Groups. She was very involved in the music program at First Baptist. She was a member of the choir and was director of the children’s choir for several years. She served several terms on the Board of Deaconesses, serving as chairman several times. She enjoyed visiting shut-ins and people in the nursing homes. She is survived by her husband, Russell of Marshalltown; son, John of Marshalltown; brother, Frances (Janet) Kreb of Cedar Falls, IA; daughter-in-law, Jamie Cripps of Breckenridge, CO; sister-in-law, Arlene Cripps of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James in 2004; and siblings, Paul, Ruth, Esther, and Lucy in infancy.
