Description	:	Mrs. Michael McManaman, a pioneer of this vicinity, passed away at her home in Plymouth county, eleven and one-half miles southeast of Hawarden, at 1:30 last Friday morning. Mrs. McManaman suffered a stroke a week before her death and she grew weaker gradually until death claimed her. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church in this city at 10 o'clock Monday morning, requiem high mass being celebrated by Rev. Fr. C.P. Conway. Mary O'Hara, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward O'Hara, was born in Ireland May 20, 1855, and passed away at her home in Plymouth county Jan. 13, 1933, at the advanced age of 77 years, 7 months and 23 days. She was the last surviving member of the family. When she was ten years of age, she, with other members of the O'Hara family, immigrated to America and settled near New Richmond, Wis. In 1879 she came to Sioux county with her brother and wife and they located at Maurice. She was united in marriage with Michael McManaman Nov. 24, 1881, at Sheldon, the late Rev. Fr. John O'Reilly, who later had charge of the Catholic parish at Rock Valley, performing the ceremony. Her husband had a home in readiness in Plymouth county and her 51 years of married life were spent on this farm. This union was blessed with seven children. One son, Edward, died in infancy. The other six children, together with her aged husband, survive her. The children are Mrs. Lawrence Gale of Akron and Misses Mary and Margaret and Michael Jr., Patrick and John at home. She also leaves ten grandchildren to mourn her loss. Mrs. McManaman possessed a quiet unassuming personality and a friend in need always felt sure of her ready sympathy and helping hand. Se was a good and faithful wife and shared with her husband the toil and hardships known only to the lives of the early pioneers. As a mother she was kind and ready to undertake any task for the welfare of her children. She was held in high esteem by all with whom she associated since coming to this vicinity as a bride fifty-one years ago. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 1/19/1933
