HENRY HALE ————— Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Hale were held Friday at 10:30 a.m. on the front porch of the home of her mother, Mrs. Rebecca White. Due to the nature of the sickness only the immediate members of the family and close neighbors attended the services but she had a large circle of friends and loved ones and the yard was filled with these persons. A shadow of gloom was felt over the entire community when the word of the death of this excellent woman was given out and it is felt that an irreparable loss is sustained among those of this vicinity. Vera was the youngest daughter of the twelve children and hers was the first death among them. The services were in charge of Rev. G. L. Stanley ,pastor of the Salem Friends church, who used for his theme, First Samuel, 20-3, "There is But a Step Between Me and Death." Misses Luella and Esther Stanley sang very beautifully, "Above the Bright Blue" and "It is Well With My Soul." The porch was filled with an abundance of beautiful flowers, a symbol of love and sympathy for the many friends and relatives. Mary La Vera Hale, daughter of T. E. and Rebecca White, was born near Salem, Iowa, March 9, 1906 and died at her home in Jackson township September 13, 1933 aged 27 years, 5 months and 25 days. She was familiarly known as Vera had was much esteemed by those who knew her. She received her education in the schools of Salem township and was a graduate from the Salem high school in the spring of 1924. In the same year she attended the State school at Cedar Falls. After taking this course, she took the nurses training at Iowa City. On August 8, 1925, she was married to Henry C. Hale of Onawa, Iowa who with little Virginia is left to mourn the loss of a faithful and loving wife and mother. Her father preceded her in death January 19, 1924. Besides her husband and daughter she leaves her mother, Mrs. Rebecca White, six sisters and five brothers, these are: Mrs. E. C. Dillavou, Mrs. S. D. Garretson, Mrs. Max Spray, Mrs. J. A. Mills, Mrs. Marion King, and Mrs. O. M. Morrison; the brothers are Fred, Roy, George, Ralph and Darrell White, all of whom attended the services. She also leaves a large number of nieces and nephews and friends. She accepted the Christian faith in early youth and has lived a life above reproach. She was cheerful and forgiving in nature and faithful to her religious duties. She with her husband were members of the Friends church and Bible school in Salem. The remains were laid to rest in the South cemetery with her five brothers and Orval Morrison, a brother-in-law the pallbearers.
