She graduated from Clearfield High School and taught in country schools in the southwest part of Iowa for two years. She married Herbert A. Gray on Feb. 29, 1932, in Grant City, Mo. After Herbert's death, she married Gerald "Doc" King on April 9, 1960, in Waterloo. She worked for many years at Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation in Nevada, retiring in 1976. Gray King She was born Jan. 23, 1911, in Clearfield to John and Melissa (Blackman) Parkhurst. She graduated from Clearfield High School and taught in country schools in the southwest part of Iowa for two years. She married Herbert A. Gray on Feb. 29, 1932, in Grant City, Mo. After Herbert's death, she married Gerald "Doc" King on April 9, 1960, in Waterloo. She worked for many years at Reuben H. Donnelley Corporation in Nevada, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Colo. She was an accompanist, seamstress and loved music. She was a longtime resident of Story County. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Hinton of Cedar Falls and Norma Elsberry of Mesa, Ariz.; a son, Paul Gray of Nevada; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Herbert on June 12, 1956, and Doc King on Jan. 9, 1997; and a brother, William Parkhurst. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Colo Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Colo-Nesco Vocal Music Department.
