Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of the late James (J.V.) Vernon Phillips Jr., and the daughter of the late Frady Baron Harmon and Martha Strausie Hughes Harmon. She was a homemaker and former substitute teacher. Read More	Gaffney, SC - - Mary Lee Harmon Phillips, 95, formerly of 103 Lansdell Drive, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Physical Rehab Wellness Center of Spartanburg. Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of the late James (J.V.) Vernon Phillips Jr., and the daughter of the late Frady Baron Harmon and Martha Strausie Hughes Harmon. She was a homemaker and former substitute teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she helped organize the 1st Cub Scouts, was a former superintendent of the 3 year-old nursery, was a Sr. adult choir member, a charter member of Brady Bell Circle, and was active in the Young at Heart. Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Gaffney High School and attended Limestone College. She was also a former president of the PTA of Central Elementary School. Mrs. Phillips loved the mountains, people, and never met a stranger. Surviving are a son, J.V. Phillips III, and wife, Jessica, of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Martha Honeycutt and husband, Mike, of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Michael Honeycutt Jr. and wife, Molly, Jamie Sanne and husband, Josh, and Jana Phillips and fiancé, Johnston Spillers; and three great-grandchildren, Michael L. Honeycutt III, Annabelle Leigh Honeycutt, and Walker James Honeycutt. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Harmon Gaffney and Jeanette Harmon Leopard; and a brother, T.J. Harmon. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at First Baptist Church Chapel. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Tommy Comer and Rev. Joel Sellers officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, 200 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC 29341; or a charity of one's choice. The family will be at their respective homes.
