Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Godel was in Snyder to transact some business and she appeared to be in her usual health. That evening she began to feel ill. The next morning about 5 o'clock her two younger sons were aroused by her heavy breathing. One of them went immediately to summon medical aid, but before the doctor arrived the lady had passed away. Epileptic convulsions, of which Mrs. Godel has suffered at intervals, is given as the cause of death. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Congregational church at Scribner. '''''''' January 16, 1903, p. 5, col. 3 Services over the remains of Mrs. Mary Godel were held at the Congregational church last Friday afternoon, Rev. M. B. Harrison officiating. Interment took place in Pebble cemetery. The pallbearers were: August W. F. Schilling, Fred Martens, William Gordon, Hans Martens, John Legband, Hans Schnoor. Mrs. Godel was born in Prussia on April 30, 1858. Her maiden name was Lehman. In 1870, at the age of twelve, she came to America with her parents, and they at once became homesteaders in Dodge county. She was married to Jacob Godel on May 20, 1879. They lived in Scribner until 1889, when they moved to Oklahoma, where Mr. Godel died the following year. Mrs. Godel and her three sons at once returned to Dodge county and resided in Fremont until 1897. They then returned to the old farm near Snyder, which has since remained their home. Mrs. Godel was generally esteemed among her acquaintances. She was a devout member of the Congregational church. Under trying circumstances she always displayed commendable fortitude and was untiring in her labors for her family.
