ALL OTHERS KEPT THE ORIGINAL SPELLING OF HAMMERLY. MRS. MARY L. HAMMERLEY Wife of Mr. C.D. Hammerley, of This Town, Dies After A Lingering Illness. Mrs. Mary L. Hammerley, beloved wife of Mr. C.D. Hammerley of this town, passed into eternal rest at her home on King street, on Thursday last, after a lingering illness of many week. Mrs. Hammerley, who was in her sixty-first year, was born in Alexandria, Va., on February 23, 1857, and was the daughter of William S. Murray and Elizabeth Waite Murray, his wife, both former residents of Fredericksburg, Va. Sweet and gentle, kind and considerate, a devoted wife and a loving mother ad beloved by all who knew her, Mrs. Hammerley was a woman whose Christian life ever stood out as an example for others to follow and in her death this entire community has sustained a great and serious loss. Her funeral took place from her late residence on King street at two o'clock on Saturday afternoon and her earthly remains from which her sweet and gentle spirit had gone to live forever with the God she loved and the God she served, were laid to rest in the Union Cemetery of this town. Mrs. Hammerley is survived by her husband, Mr. C.D. Hammerley; seven daughters, Miss Elizabeth W. Hammerley, Miss Margaret J. Hammerley, Miss Nellie B. Hammerley, Miss Adelaide J. Hammerley, Miss Jessie M. Hammerley, Miss Ruth J. Hammerley, all of Leesburg, and Mrs. Jane Armack, of Charlottesville, Va. She also leaves to mourn her loss three sisters, Mrs. J.B. Shafer and Mrs. P.M. Bradshaw, of Alexandria, and Mrs. E.B. Cranford, of Washington, and four brothers, Mr. Jesse Murray and Mr. William Murray, of Alexandria, Mr. Thomas Murray, of Hampton, Va., and Maj. Alexander Murray, of the United States Army.
