Mrs. Ferguson was born Oct. 21, 1914, at Eddyville to Ivan and Ida Moline Albaugh. She was raised in the Eddyville area and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught elementary school in several locations. On Aug. 14, 1938, she married Loel Curtis Ferguson. When their children were nearly grown, she returned to teaching and earned her bachelor’s degree from William Penn College in 1965. She taught fourth grade in Montezuma for 16 years. Her teaching career totaled 26 years. After she retired, she continued to tutor students. She supported the cause of the underprivileged and oppressed by supporting Amnesty International, Klan Watch, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer Project, and the Iowa Peace Institute. She was a 50-year member of the Iowa Federation of Women’s clubs and active in the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Garden Club, Library Club, and had served as 4-H leader. Survivors include her husband: Loel Ferguson of Montezuma; a son and his wife: Dr. David and Ann Ferguson of Grinnell; two daughters and a son-in-law: Lois and Ferguson of Montezuma and Linda and her husband David Cranston of Grinnell; six grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
